Set Model Parameters There are a number of model run time parameters the user may adjust to fine tune the OMEGA simulation. Nearly all of these options are contained in a text file called "omega.i" that resides in the "/case/run/" directory. XOMEGA's Set Model Parameters dialog box is an easy way to set these options. This dialog has six sections: Adaptation Parameters, Physics Parameters, Ocean Model Parameters, Output Parameters, Parallel Parameters, and two rows of Action Buttons. How to use each section will be described, followed by exact specifications of each control's actions, valid data range, and default value. Adaptation Parameters By default, the entire OMEGA simulation will use a static grid. However, the model has the capability of performing Dynamic Grid Adaptation while the simulation is running. The computational grid will change in response to dynamic features of the simulation. This section controls when and how to use Dynamic Grid Adaptation. Dynamic Grid Adaptation - If this toggle is set to OFF, then the simulation will not use Adaptation, and the other Adaptation Parameters will be shaded and inactive. If this toggle is set to ON, then the simulation will use Adaptation, and the the other Adaptation Parameters will be active. Valid Range: ON or OFF Default Value: OFF Adaptation Coarsening - If this toggle is set to OFF, then as the simulation proceeds no post-adaptation coarsening of the grid will be performed. Those areas that were refined to higher resolution due to some adaptation criteria will remain at the new resolution even after the adaptation criteria no longer holds. If this toggle is set to ON, then as the simulation proceeds post-adaptation coarsening of the grid will be performed. Those areas that were refined to higher resolution due to some adaptation criteria will be coarsened back to the original resolution after the adaptation criteria no longer holds. Valid Range: ON or OFF Default Value: ON Potential Cell Increase - This menu controls the limit on the potential increase in the number of cells due to adaptation. This limit will prevent unbounded growth in number of cells as the adaptation works. Valid Range: double, triple, quadruple Default Value: double Adaptation Criteria - This menu controls which meteorological phenomena is used as the basis for adaptation. Areas of the simulation that experience the specified phenomena will undergo adaptation. Valid Range: Particle Location, Velocity Deformation, Potential Temperature Gradient, Absolute Vorticity, or, Hurricane Center. Default Value: Particle Location Adaptation Frequency - Number of hours between adaptation processes. Valid Range: 0.1 to 12.0 hours Default Value: 1.0 hour Adaptation Minimum Resolution - Minimum acceptable resolution for new cells created by adaptation. Valid Range: 1.0 to 200.0 km Default Value: 20.0 km Physics Parameters Microphysics Computations - If this toggle is set to ON, then the microphysics package of the model will be used. If this toggle is set to OFF, then the microphysics package of the model will not be used. Concentration Computations - If this toggle is set to ON, then concentration calculations will be performed. If this toggle is set to OFF, then concentration calculations will not be performed. Ocean Model Parameters Call Ocean Model - If this toggle is set to OFF, then the simulation will not call the ocean model, and the other Ocean Model Controls will be shaded and inactive. If this toggle is set to ON, then the simulation will call the ocean model, and the other Ocean Model Controls will be active. Valid Range: ON or OFF Default Value: OFF Two Way Interaction - If this toggle is set to OFF, then the ocean model and atmospheric model are separate. If this toggle is set to ON, then the ocean model values will be used by the atmospheric model. Valid Range: ON or OFF Default Value: OFF Ocean Model Call Frequency - Hours between calls to Ocean Model Valid Range: 0.1 to 24.0 hours Default Value: 1.0 hours Ocean Model Save Frequency - Hours between saving Ocean Model output Valid Range: 0.1 to 24.0 hours Default Value: 1.0 hours Output Parameters Statistics Output - If this toggle is set to OFF, then no statistics output files are created. If this toggle is set to ON, then statistics files are created. Valid Range: ON or OFF Default Value: ON Field Output Frequency - Hours between saving model output files (.pkb). Valid Range: 0.1 to 12.0 hours Default Value: 1.0 hours Restart Output Frequency - Hours between saving model restart files (.out). Valid Range: 0.1 to 12.0 hours Default Value: 1.0 hours Parallel Parameters Number of Processors - Number of processors to use. If any number greater then one (1) is used, then the parallel model will run. Valid Range: 1 to 100 (Installation Dependant) Default Value: 1 END Set Model Parameters
