Set Temporal Domain When you perform a simulation of the atmosphere you are creating a weather forecast. Even if you are simulating an historic event, you are still starting with the atmosphere in some state and evolving it in time to an end state. The Set Temporal Domain dialog box is the mechanism used to set the time bounds on your simulation. The first setting in the OMEGA Settings Column is "Set Temporal Domain". This placement reflects the idea that the time bounds of an OMEGA simulation are the most fundamental part. You must first decide -when- and -how long- your simulation will be before you can set other parameters. When the button is pressed the Set Temporal Domain dialog box is popped up. This dialog box is one of the easiest dialogs to use. The dialog consists of two sections: Temporal Settings and Action Buttons. How to use each section will be described, followed by exact specifications of each control's actions, valid data range, and default value. The data for each region is stored internally as both the times you input and the total length of time for the simulation. Temporal Settings This section has eight text entry boxes. By clicking the first mouse button within the box you will be able to enter your choices. The cursor location will shown by a blinking bar. You may type as usual in the box to enter the desired Start and End times in broken-down form for your simulation. On most systems both backspace and delete will work to remove digits. Be sure to abide by the digit conventions listed in parenthesis beside the box when entering data. Start Year - Year of Start time in four digit form. Valid Range: 1900 to 2100 Default Value: current year Start Month - Month of Start time in two digit form. Valid Range: 1 to 12 Default Value: current month Start Day - Day of Start time in two digit form. Valid Range: 1 to 31 Default Value: current day Start Hour - Hour of Start time in four digit form. Valid Range: 00 to 23 Default Value: 00 End Year - Year of Start time in four digit form. Valid Range: 1900 to 2100 Default Value: current year + 24 hours End Month - Month of Start time in two digit form. Valid Range: 1 to 12 Default Value: current month + 24 hours End Day - Day of Start time in two digit form. Valid Range: 1 to 31 Default Value: current day + 24 hours End Hour - Hour of Start time in four digit form. Valid Range: 00 to 23 Default Value: 00 Action Buttons Clear Form - This button will reset the text entries to blanks. Default - This button will reset all text entries to their default values. OK - This button will check the time data, cause XOMEGA to write out a "time.inp" file in the case directory, and close the dialog box. If any values are in error, a Set Temporal Domain Error dialog box will pop up alerting you of the specific errors and suggestions on how to correct them. See below for information on the Error dialog box. No "time.inp" file will be written if there are errors in the data. Cancel - This button will decline the time data, reset the values to default, and close the dialog box. There is no confirmation process. Help - This button will open the Help dialog and load this section. Set Temporal Domain Error While entering values into the text entries if you make errors a dialog box will pop up alerting you of the errors and suggesting ways to correct them. The top part of the dialog box contains the error message and the suggestions. The bottom part has a row with two action buttons: OK - This button will dismiss the Error dialog. Help - This button will open the Help dialog and load this section. END Set Temporal Domain
